![]() No problem mate, I know moscowphoto's sneaky sells on eBay. It's a very nice way to do photographic work without always having to look at the manual lens to see your settings. A second ring spins stoplessly (actually controlling the aperture) and lets you open the lens up wide to focus and then quickly stop the lens down to your preferred f-stop. With a preset aperture, you select the aperture you want to shoot at with one ring. What is the diffrence between the preset and not? sorry new in photography. MasterOverDrive edited this topic ages ago. moscowStore/_i.html?_nkw=Helios+44M&s.īy the way any ebay seller which is selling the original one like what you mention? Thanks again. Yeah i noticed that most 44M-7 he sell start below 93XX see his store below: i almost buy to the ebay seller you mention and luckily gave me that tips. Your mileage may vary, but they're all lovely lenses and it's hard to go wrong. My personal favourite is the 44-3 which is the same optical formula as the 44-2, but in a slightly larger, easier-to-handle, more solid body with multicoating and an easier-to-use present ring. ![]() The 44-2 is the most-loved member of the family - sharp, lovely colours, and great Zeiss bokeh that disappeared in 44-4+ versions. General thought seems to be that the Helios lenses did not get better with age. You might need a preset like the 44-2 if you can't access an appropriate adapter. The ones that Moscowphoto is selling on eBay with serial numbers starting before 93xx are fake, they just change the front ring to make it look like a "7" and add "old version" which does not exist.Ĥ4-2 has better swirly bokeh, 44m-7 is sharper, with more resolution.Ĥ4-2 has 8 blades and if I'm not wrong 44M-7 has 6 blades.Ĥ4-2 is better for soft creamy looking portraits and nature photos, 44M-7 is as sharp as a modern lens.īillowy month edited this topic ages ago. ![]() Get it only if the serial number starts from 93xxxxxx and 94xx, 95xxxx, etc. Get the 44M-7 since its the best version of all. Anyone can give me a link with the comparison of this 2 lens? Appreciate your help. I can't decide which one to buy because i search from some forum that 44-2 is quiet good and sharp. Budget wise,44-2 would be a go, but somehow i saw the 44M-7 old version which has 8aperture blade as well + the MC i don't mind to add a couple of dollars. You can place orders now, shipping looking like end of December.I am planning to purchase a helios 44 but really confused which one to grab on to. Iron Glass has plans for a whole set of Helios rehoused lenses, consisting of 20,28,37,58,85 and 135mm. Much of this is likely down to the relatively cheap cost of the lens itself, they are fairly common to get hold of and usually fetch for under $100. The price? $950 – pretty reasonable when considering the cost of usual lens rehousing. It weighs just over half a kilo (550g/1.2 lbs.) and sports a 95mm clap on front with internal 86mm filter thread. Aperture remains on the front in f/stop (no T-stopping) but is de-clicked.ĭespite the slightly confusing name, the Cine Helios 44-2 is a 58mm full frame lens.įocus rotation of the original Helios 44-2 is relatively long, the Cine Helios 44-2 is no exceptional at 270 degrees. The Cine Helios 44-2 is available in permanent PL or EF mount, focus scale can be etched in feet or meters. Iron Glass has taken it a step further a produced a completely rehoused version, for a very affordable price. None of this is ideal for video, and a few companies have looked to tackle this by adding gears, spaced front hoods and improved threaded mounts. Focus wheel is tight to the mount and, being old, models generally have some play here and there. It is M42 mount, meaning any adaption to the likes of Canon EF involves a screw adaptor (easy to unscrew). The problem many filmmakers have found with this lens is adapting it successfully for video. The 44-2 has become a very popular lens in the vintage market, known for it’s swirly-bokeh backgrounds. Helios is a lens brand from the Soviet Union era, affectionately naming all their lenses with a simple model number. The Cine Helios 44-2 VLFV is a new lens from Iron Glass that rehouses the cult classic 58mm Helios swirly-bokeh vintage lens.
